CELEBRATING SAKE

What’s Sake Day?

Sake Day, or “Nihonshu no Hi”, is celebrated annually on October 1st in Japan.
It marks the official start of the sake brewing season — a time when rice is freshly harvested and the ideal brewing conditions begin.

Established 1978 by Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association (JSS), Sake Day honors centuries of traditional craftsmanship, cultural heritage, and the deep connection between sake and Japanese life. It’s more than just a drink — it’s a symbol of community, celebration, and artistry.

Whether you're a sake connoisseur or a curious first-timer, Sake Day is the perfect time to raise your glass and discover the diverse flavors, aromas, and stories behind Japan’s national drink.

Kanpai! 🍶✨

Calling all sake lovers! Prepare to raise your glasses in celebration! This autumn, SAKECON returns with even more flavor, flair, and fun for Sake Day — tastings, cultural activations, Japanese delights, with a stylish crowd dressed in “All White” — symbolizing the purity at the heart of sake.

Why “All White”? The Secret of Shinpaku
Did you know that premium sake starts with something called Shinpaku – the mysterious, snow-white center of sake rice? This soft starch center allows fermentation to create smooth, elegant sake.

It’s not just rice — it’s precision, tradition, and centuries of Japanese craftsmanship in every sip. Picture this immersive space of showcasing the vibrant sprit of Japan into a SAKE-CON fiesta!

Here's a taste of what you can expect:

About NR

  • Instagram

Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, NR is a one-of-a-kind Japanese cocktail bar and ramen restaurant that blends Meiji-era inspiration with modern craftsmanship. Modeled after the port town eateries of 19th-century Japan—where East first met West—NR reimagines that cultural fusion through its boundary-pushing cocktails and soulful Japanese comfort food.

At the heart of NR is cocktail visionary Shigefumi “Shige” Kabashima, formerly of the iconic Angel’s Share, whose storytelling-driven mixology brings together hand-cut ice, smoke, flavor layering, and elegant presentation. His partner in the kitchen, Chef Takashi Igarashi, adds Kyoto-style precision to every dish, creating an experience where tradition meets innovation—on both plate and glass.

A sequel to the acclaimed ROKC, NR has become a must-visit for those seeking refined flavors, bold creativity, and a touch of nostalgic charm in a setting where old meets new, and Japanese tradition meets global technique.
